We at Davis are pleased to announce that the Mayo Clinic Executive Health Program is now a benefit of our EMBA Program.  We’re honored to link our academic programs with the Mayo brand, which enjoys a worldwide reputation for quality, commitment, and education.

Students enrolled in our EMBA will, as a part of the curriculum, spend time at Mayo to (1) get a full-blown, extensive health assessment (i.e., thorough, state-of-the-art, comprehensive testing and diagnoses) and (2) participate in a series of six seminars and workshops on executive health topics, to include heart-healthy lifestyle, stress management, etc.

This initiative is exciting because it allows our Davis EMBA curriculum to ‘walk the talk.’  We talk and speak to the interconnectedeness of life — how a leader’s health, fitness, and on-the-job stressors affect business decisions, relationships, and family life.  This  initiative essentially makes executive health and fitness a part of the curriculum — a very new concept in MBA education.

Additionally, we espouse and teach ‘holistic leadership education,’ meaning that everything is connected and that one sphere of life influences the other.  Our holistic leadership model suggests that executives, as leaders, must account for their personal wellness and fitness as affecting other spheres of life — organizational, social, family, etc.  This approach has gained increasing popularity in business education, but what we’re doing at Davis – integrating a first-rate, world-class executive health and fitness program into our curriculum — is, to use a cliche, ‘cutting edge.’  We’re breaking new ground here.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JU President Dr. Kerry Romesburg will host a signing ceremony with Bob Brigham, Mayo Clinic chief administrative officer, at 10 a.m. Dec. 10 in the DCOB main entrance foyer to formalize and celebrate the initiative.

“Mayo’s international stature and expertise in the area of executive health and fitness will be a valued addition to Davis’ EMBA and MBA programs,” said Joseph McCann, dean of the DCOB. “In turn, Davis’ recognized graduate programs will bring new, valued professionals into direct contact with Mayo’s outstanding medical services. These business professionals and ultimately their organizations will greatly benefit from Mayo’s expertise in the field of executive health.”

As part of the initiative, JU EMBA students will receive a preventative medical examination by specialists in the Mayo Clinic Executive Health Program designed for top-level executives. The examination includes a complete checkup and comprehensive lifestyle assessment. Students will discuss their results face-to-face with a Mayo Clinic physician, who will guide them in developing a plan based on their personal objectives.

“We’re excited at being able to integrate two fine programs – the JU EMBA and the Mayo Clinic Executive Health Program,” said Romesburg.  “This agreement is further evidence of our commitment to graduate business education of the absolute highest quality.”

Mayo Clinic and DCOB will jointly design a series of short seminars, briefings and workshops of varying duration to be delivered by Mayo Clinic staff to Davis EMBA students during regularly scheduled program sessions.  The seminars and workshops will focus on the connections between mind, body and human performance and will be woven into the Davis EMBA curriculum and delivered by Mayo Clinic medical staff.  Topics will likely include:  stress management, heart-healthy lifestyle, travel, nutrition, exercise, fitness and brain function and mental acuity

“Holistic leadership is a dominant focus of our MBA Programs,” said Donnie Horner, director of the Davis Leadership Center.  “The Mayo Clinic Executive Health Program illustrates that strong executive leadership requires a strong mind, body and spirit to produce a healthy bottom line.  Integrating these concepts is central to holistic leadership education.”

wow a number of the commentary readers post are just absurd, now and again i question if they realistically read the content and threads before placing a comment or whether they just simply read over the subject of the blog post and craft the initial thought that drifts into their heads.
